Tesla has set a target to deliver Cybercab units to buyers by the close of 2026, with most vehicles remaining in the company's own service fleet.

Tesla Inc. has established a target to deliver its Cybercab vehicles to customers before the end of 2026, clarifying the timeline for when individuals can purchase the autonomous unit. The announcement, made by Vice President of Engineering Lars Moravy during the company's third-quarter 2026 earnings call on October 21, resolves ongoing uncertainty regarding the availability of the vehicle for personal acquisition. Moravy stated, "We're trying to get Cybercabs to customers by the end of this year, 2026." He further noted that while production is active at Gigafactory Texas, all current units are being directed toward the company's internal Robotaxi fleet.
Despite the timeline for sales, the majority of the Cybercab fleet will remain under Tesla's direct control. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk described the vehicle's primary function as a "transport-as-a-service" offering, distinguishing it from personal ownership models like the Model 3 or Model Y. "The vast majority of the Cybercab stuff will be Tesla-owned and transport-as-a-service," Musk said. This approach indicates that the company intends to operate these vehicles for revenue generation rather than selling them en masse to private individuals.
The Cybercab is a purpose-built, two-seat autonomous vehicle that lacks a steering wheel and pedals, relying entirely on Tesla's Full Self-Driving suite for navigation. Manufacturing of the vehicle has been underway since February, and units were deployed into the Robotaxi service for public rides starting in early September. Tesla has previously indicated a target price point of roughly $30,000 for the Cybercab. Moravy explained that initial deliveries to customers will begin on a limited scale as the company gains experience with logistics and fleet management outside its direct oversight.
Regulatory and technical hurdles remain before these deliveries can proceed. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's Head of AI, indicated that unsupervised Full Self-Driving software is scheduled to ship to consumer vehicles in the second quarter of 2027. Until then, vehicles delivered to customers or fleet operators may face geographic restrictions on their autonomous capabilities due to lagging regulatory agencies in various regions.
Production continues at Gigafactory Texas as Tesla works to fulfill the request for Cybercabs by the end of the year. The company is currently managing the distribution of these units between its own internal fleet and the limited number of external customers. The timeline for personal sales remains set for the close of 2026, pending the resolution of remaining operational and regulatory issues.
Tesla's business strategy involves ramping up autonomous operations while gradually increasing the number of vehicles available for purchase by outside parties. The company is proceeding with plans to deliver Cybercabs to customers by the end of 2026. The distribution of vehicles will prioritize the internal Robotaxi fleet for the time being, with external sales beginning on a small scale.
